In front of the state capitol in Montgomery Davis is inaugurated as
President of the Confederates States of America. It is a warm and
sunny day. The band played "Dixie". There were bands, fireworks,
and a 100 gun salute. Davis said "Obstacles may retard, but they
can not prevent, the progress of a movement sanctified by its
justice and sustained by a virtuous people"
