| Jefferson Davis Forms Cabinet Jefferson Davis begins to form his cabinet. The initial members will be Secretary of State, Robert Toombs of Georgia; Secretary of Treasury, Christopher G. Memminger of South Carolina; Secretary of War, Leroy Pope Walker of Alabama; Secretary of Navy, Stephen R. Mallory of Florida; Attorney General, Judah P. Benjamin of Louisianan; and Postmaster General, John H. Reagon of Texas. Only Mallory and Reagon will retain their posts until the end of the Confederacy. |
