Washington's Birthday Celebrated

George Washington's birthday is celebrated in both the North and
South. Lincoln gives a moving
address in Philadelphia at
Independence Hall. Lincoln then journeys from Philadelphia to
Harrisburg, PA. In Harrisburg Lincolns states that he believes
peace can be maintained "consistently with the maintenance of
the institutions of the country" Lincoln leaves with Ward Hill
Lamon, board a special train for Washington, leaving ahead of
plan to avoid problems in Baltimore.
