Lincoln Arrives in Washington

Lincoln arrives in Washington at 6 am. He will be accused of
sneaking into Washington. He is greeted by Congressman Elihu
Washburne of Illinois. Lincoln will stay at the Willard Hotel until the
inaugural. He is visited at the Willard by Senator Stephen Douglas
of Illinois. Lincoln visits President Buchanan at the White House
during this first day in Washington.

Texas Votes to Secede

Texas votes in a referendum, 34,794 to 11,235 to secede.
