Federal Forces on the Move Federal forces advance in several areas. Joseph Johnston has evacuated Harper's Ferry due to the movement of Federal forces under the direction of Lew Wallace moving on Romney, Virginia. There is also fear that troops under McClellan from Western Virginia will advance. Federal forces under Robert Patterson are also threatening from the North. On the Potomac, Federal forces under C.P. Stone occupy Edward's and Conrad's ferry.
