Lincoln Holds Cabinet Meeting

Lincoln holds his first cabinet meeting. The Senate is in special
session to confirm Lincoln's cabinet appointments. Major Robert
Anderson, the commander of Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor,
has sent a note that arrives on March 4th. In the note Major
Anderson states that he can not hold the fort. Lincoln confers with
General Winfield Scott, commander or the United States Army.
General Scott confirms the opinion of Major Anderson that the fort
can not be held.
