Riot in St. Louis

Pro-Union forces under Captain Nathanial Lyon attack
Pro-Southern forces in St. Louis. Captain Lyons led a group of
Germans numbering approximately 7,000 against approximately
700 pro-southern troops camped in Fort Jackson which is named
after the pro-southern Governor Claiborne Jackson.
Approximately 30 people are killed. It is believed that future
General William T. Sherman observed the riot.
