| Lee Orders Occupation of Harper's Ferry General Robert E. Lee commanding the State of Virginia's military force orders Colonel Thomas Jonathan Jackson to concentrate his forces at Harper's Ferry, Va. Colonel Jackson is ordered to remove all machinery in the United States Arsenal to Winchester and Strasburg, Va. Both Tennessee and North Carolina are taking actions towards secession. In Tennessee the legislature approves a resolution to appoint commissioner to work with the newly formed Confederate government. In North Carolina the legislature votes to form a convention on secession. |
