| Lincoln Takes Action President Lincoln order Colonel Robert Anderson, late of Fort Sumter, to recruit troops from Kentucky and Western Virgina. He also reviews Elmer Ellsworh's New York Brigade of Fire Zouaves. A Zouave has a uniform modeled after those of the French Colonial Armies. It was a gaudy uniform with baggy pants, a short jacket, and a fez. The Zouaves were also famous for the ability to fire and reload a musket from a prone position. |
