Lincoln's Day

In afternoon Lincoln goes for drive in open carriage with Sec.
Seward and receives greetings of respect everywhere. He also
attends a flag-raising ceremony at the 69th New York Regiment
on Georgetown Heights. He deposits April salary check for
$2,083.33 in Riggs Bank. He also writes Sec. Welles to ignore
criticism of appointment of G. V. Fox as chief clerk of Navy dept.,
adding: "He is a live man, whose services we cannot well dispense
with."
